In 1990, attends the shooting of the movie By Pedro Almodovar. In 1991 he realizes the short film "Free" with Iaia Forte, which will feature an episode of the same name presented at the Berlin Festival in 1993. The film won the Silver Ribbon as best first feature.

At the age of eighteen he begins working inthe advertisement field, becoming promptly a copyrighting wonder in the Milan entourage. Soon after he becomes part of the Rome-based branch of J Walter Thompson, where he directs his first advertising clips. He furthermore leads a year’s season for the indipendent broadcast Radio One, creating its programming structure and hosting shows. In the year’97 he approaches his first film set as Assistant to director Pupi Avati on the feature film “La Vita degli Angeli”. He then goes on to becoming First Assistant Director to various filmakers as Roger Youngtv miniseries “Dracula”), Raffaele Mertes (“Apocalypse”), where healso stars alongside Richard Harris, playing the role of Jesus. JanMichelini then entertains a two-year collaboration with director MelGibson, initially following up on preparation, then principalphotography and post production as ADR Director.
He directed several documentaries, among which . “I Cease to be
Indifferent”, shot on location in Nicaragua as a promotion for Italiansolidarity activities in underdeveloped countries.
Among his latest occupations, is the miniseries “John Paul II” as
Second Unit Director, produced by CBS, starring John Voight, "War andPeace", european co-produced tv kolossal, for which he directed the IIUnit, and "Coco Chanel" tv movie for RAI. He has furthermore produced,directed and composed the music for the docufiction on Indian cinema“Bollywood Boulevard”, distributed by Rai Cinema. Jan is also a composer of film music and collaborates with many internationalmusicians. His last release is "Bollywood Boulevard", produced by Sugar and distributed by Universal Music.
